TalkLP podcast host, Amber Bradley, recently released a conversation she had with false confession academic expert Dr. Brian Cutler. And there have definitely been some reactions.... see below and check out the podcast here.
Fully validated
"I recently listened to your podcast with Dr. Cutler and found it intriguing. While false confessions are indeed a real phenomenon, a skilled interviewer ensures the credibility of such admissions. For instance, if the subject confesses to having $2,000, the interviewer should verify this amount. They might ask the subject what the money was used for and wait for a detailed response. If the subject claims they used the money to pay their rent, the interviewer should follow up by asking about the rent amount. If they say their rent is $1,000, the interviewer should then inquire whether they fell behind or had other expenses, continuing this line of questioning until the admission and its reasoning are fully validated."

Not if you're doing it right
"Interesting podcast. For me, I often feel like as long as I'm going by the WZ method - I don't have to worry about false confessions. I mean, I typically don't even interview to get the confession unless I have the evidence to support the conversation. Although - Dr. Cutler brings up some interesting points I never thought of -- and I love your example of the cashier simply reaching for some ciggys."
