Resale Fraud Is Exploding — And It's Costing Retailers Billions

Resale fraud has morphed into a sophisticated global operation, leveraging stolen credentials, bots, and digital anonymity to flip fraudulently acquired goods for profit — often before real customers can even make a purchase. This growing threat drains inventory, erodes brand trust, and overwhelms fraud teams, especially in high-demand retail categories like sneakers, concert tickets, and electronics. While new laws like the INFORM Consumers Act aim to tighten seller verification, experts agree: merchants must act now with layered defenses, smarter fraud detection, and tighter policy enforcement to keep pace with increasingly organized digital fraud rings.

NRF Calls House Tax Proposal a Major Win for Retailers and the American Economy

The National Retail Federation (NRF) has strongly endorsed Chairman Jason Smith’s proposed tax legislation, which extends key provisions of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act to support business investment, job creation, and economic growth. NRF praised the exclusion of changes to the business SALT deduction and emphasized the bill’s importance in creating a stable, competitive tax environment for American retailers. Highlighting its ongoing advocacy, NRF reaffirmed its commitment to championing policies that empower the retail sector and drive long-term economic resilience.

Target CEO admits a major mistake amid boycotts from customers

Target has faced ongoing controversy and consumer boycotts, starting with backlash in 2023 over its Pride collection and escalating in 2024 after the company scaled back its DEI initiatives. The move—coinciding with a federal rollback of DEI programs—led to further boycotts and a decline in store foot traffic. Target CEO Brian Cornell recently acknowledged the company’s communication failures during this period, reaffirming its core values of inclusivity and connection while engaging with civil rights leaders like Rev. Al Sharpton to address concerns and rebuild trust.

US retailers benefit from temporary tariff rollback

The U.S. and China have agreed to a 90-day pause on high tariffs—some as steep as 125%—to ease trade tensions and allow for continued negotiations. The National Retail Federation welcomed the move as a “critical first step,” especially for retailers preparing for the winter holiday season, who now have a chance to stabilize prices and adjust supply chains. While the temporary relief is encouraging, long-term solutions on trade imbalances, intellectual property, and fair market access remain uncertain, and business leaders are urging both governments to seize this window to build a sustainable trade framework.

When Employees Leave, Risk Remains: The Growing Threat of Insider Breaches

As workforce turnover increases, insider threats — including lingering system access and corporate espionage — are becoming a critical cybersecurity concern. Former employees who retain access to sensitive data can expose organizations to theft, sabotage, or compliance failures, making offboarding and access control essential parts of any security strategy. To stay ahead of these risks, companies must implement robust offboarding processes, behavioral monitoring, cross-functional collaboration, and employee education while fostering a transparent, security-aware culture across the organization.

The Clock Is Ticking: Why Phishing Remains The Fastest-Moving Cyber Threat in 2025

Cybersecurity professionals face an increasingly aggressive phishing threat landscape, and the 2025 KnowBe4 Phishing By Industry Benchmarking Report makes one thing crystal clear: transforming your largest attack surface - your workforce - into your biggest security asset is critical.

49 Seconds to Disaster
According to the Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report (DBIR), the median time it takes someone to click a malicious link is a staggering 21 seconds. And if that phishing email requires the employee to enter data — like credentials — the whole process takes just 49 seconds.

Police, retailers, say prosecutions, teamwork, technology thwart shoplifters

Police, prosecutors and retailers say they're taking a proactive approach to reduce shoplifting in Loudoun County.

At the second annual retail theft forum in Leesburg May 13, speakers said the approach involves targeted enforcement and greater use of technology, stricter prosecutions and better cooperation between retailers, police and prosecutors.

The forum was held amid a rise in shoplifting in Loudoun County. Last year,  749 shoplifting complaints were made to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

What Every Business Needs To Know About Multi-Factor Authentication

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) has become one of the most-recommended security must-haves.

It’s now a cornerstone in most business’ cybersecurity strategies, offering an additional layer of protection beyond traditional passwords that are often weak, recycled across multiple apps, sites, or systems, and routinely compromised.

Yet, as MFA adoption has increased, so too have the sophistication of attacks designed to circumvent it. Threat actors are continually developing new methods to bypass these security measures, presenting major risks to the organizations it is designed to protect.

ROI and Cloud-Based Video Surveillance Solutions: Examples, Tips and Insights from Recent Webinar

Ian Cameron

Ian Cameron

Director of Marketing

MN_logo_Color-cmyk-2

As the Director of Marketing at March Networks, I had the pleasure of leading a recent webinar where we delved into the transformative potential of cloud-based video surveillance systems, and the tangible returns on investment (ROI) businesses can achieve by transitioning to cloud systems. Our discussion was rich with data, customer stories, and a clear path forward for organizations looking to modernize their security infrastructure. Here, I want to share my insights and the compelling evidence we’ve gathered on the ROI that the cloud offers.

The webinar kicked off with a stark look at the current landscape of video surveillance systems. In our 2024 survey on Cloud-Based Video Surveillance we conducted with Security Info Watch, we found that outdated technology (30%), cybersecurity vulnerabilities (27%), and high maintenance costs (26%) are the primary challenges organizations face with their current video surveillance systems. These pain points underscore the critical need for modernization, as they are significant real and/or perceived barriers to safety, efficiency, and growth. Why perceived? Because while costs are a factor, investing in intelligent cloud-based video surveillance brings significant returns on investment, as you will see.

Grocery stores risk being forced to change self-checkout policy under new bill – but Walmart would be exempt

Grocery stores could be forced to change their self-checkout policy if a new bill becomes law.

But, major retailers such as Walmart and Target would be exempt thanks to a loophole within the proposal.

If the bill becomes law, supermarkets would be banned from running more than six self-checkout stations at once.

Even Legacy Brands Aren’t Safe: The Importance of Legal Strategy

Many traditional retailers are still built on legal and operational frameworks designed for a slower, more predictable era.

An era that didn’t anticipate the online shopping boom, and certainly not a global pandemic. For many retailers, leases are often with shopping centre giants that are locked in for years with inflexible terms, and supplier agreements are built around long lead times and static stock models, also lacking the flexibility needed to change things at pace.

Louisville Police & Kroger Unite to 'Stop Gun Violence' in New Safety Push

At an event Tuesday, LMPD members handed out free gun locks and information on crime prevention, along with more than 150 free meals provided by Kroger.

“The biggest thing is just interaction with the community," said Sgt. Tony Sacra. "We want to make sure that they know that LMPD cares."

These events can help bridge the gap between the police and the community.
