Target is testing new technology to allow shoppers to lock and unlock store shelves using their smartphones, an anti-theft solution that has been explored by competitors like Walmart.
The tech move was announced during an internal staff call Thursday by Chief Stores Officer Adrienne Costanzo, according to Bloomberg News.
The technology would enable shoppers to the ability to quickly access items without the assistance of a store employee with physical keys, marking a shift in tactics as the company works to curb retail theft.
Idaho suspected shooter intentionally set fire, police say
Two firefighters were fatally shot while responding to a brush fire in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Another man found dead with a firearm on Canfield Mountain is believed to be the only shooter in Sunday’s attacks, according to Kootenai County Sheriff Bob Norris.
Investigators are likely working to understand the motivation of the Idaho suspect who they believe started a brush fire before shooting at responding firefighters in what authorities describe as a planned ambush, a former intelligence official told CNN.

The Florida Organized Retail Crime Exchange (FORCE) played a significant role in this crackdown.
The nationwide blitz operation targeted criminals, and organized crime rings that prey on retailers.
“Due to great coordination among our state law enforcement and Florida Organized Retail Crime Exchange, 44 criminals were arrested as part of a nationwide organized retail theft blitz,” said Attorney General James Uthmeier.

DoorDash,Flytrex announce expansion of drone delivery services in DFW metro
DoorDash and Flytrex have launched a drone delivery service in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area, offering food delivery by autonomous aircraft to residents in parts of Little Elm and Frisco.
The rollout follows a successful pilot program and makes use of Flytrex’s drone fleet, which now operates daily between 8:00 a.m. and 9:30 p.m.
Customers can order from a selection of local and national restaurants, including Papa Johns and The Brass Tap, directly through the DoorDash app.
Eligible users are given the option to select drone delivery at checkout.
